They came from the hills of Tennessee and the bayou of Louisiana. They came with long guns and dreams, and called themselves Texans. They fought to get there.
They fought to stay. Now, they would fight to the death.
With names like Crockett, Houston and Bowie, they fought and clawed their way to an adobe-walled fortress called the Alamo. There, the small army of Independence stood in the way of Santa Anna's best troops. Outnumbered forty-to-one, they came to the Alamo to die, and their fight would live forever...

Robert Vaughn master Western storyteller, tells the ultimate American frontier epic, the saga of the men and women whose destinies met at the Alamo, and the courage that shaped a legend and a land.

Texas Glory An Epic Saga Of The Alamo eBook Robert Vaughan

It's clear to see why master storyteller Robert Vaughan has hit the NYT bestseller list seven times and won claim to numerous awards as he interweaves this epic saga of the Alamo with the upheaval of the personal dreams and lives of those who participated in the tapestry of the time: a young woman (unknowingly) with a smattering of Negro blood, believing she is about to marry her longtime beau succumbs to his advances only to find herself pregnant with her lover gone to Texas (he having found out about her bloodlines and the illegal status of their proposed marriage in Louisiana). Her determination to find and marry him, against all odds, friends and families involved, is one of the several fascinating subplots within the fabric of this tale. The challenge of a duel that also, inadvertently, sweeps away the dreams and lives of dear friends and lovers provides another. Mesmerizing from start to finish, this is one history lesson, you'll carry around with you for days and one you'll never forget.

Texas Glory An Epic Saga Of The Alamo eBook Robert Vaughan Reviews

This book was competent. The action was steady, but certainly not in the same category as a McMurtry novel. I wanted more on the characters of Travis, Crockett and Bowie. I did not know about Santa Anna's dalliance with drugs, however. Less a love story and more action, please.
A wonderfully written account of events leading up to the fall of the Alamo and those following. The author also adds to the human drama by adding a portrayal of a love story to the mix. Readers will come away with an appreciation of Texas' fighr for independence without getting bogged down with historical facts that won't be remembered.
Pretty well written until he began to discuss the Alamo and the folks that defended it. When he spoke of Susanna and Almeron "Dickerson" I thought he was referring to the Dickensons but when he described Susanna as blonde and very good looking he must have been talking about someone else. Google Susanna Dickenson and you will see tintypes of her, probably done after she moved to Austin. Vaughn must have been thinking of the actress, Joan O'brien, who portrayed Sue Dickenson in the 1960 movie. She, indeed, was blonde and quite attractive.
A decent western but nothing to write home about and clearly not in the caliber of "Lonesome Dove" and its follow on books. It was difficult to like or even be interested in the love triangle between Marie, Sam McCord and Hunter Grant, it seemed so unnatural, especially with Marie's vacillations between I love him, I love him not directed at both Sam and Hunter. A pretty simplistic love story set in the backdrop of the war of independence in Texas and the battle at the Alamo. Even there history was re-written, not very accurate and the author tried to fit the entire history of the Texas-Mexican conflict in his novel about these characters love story.
The Mexicans who owned Tejasfelt the land was worthless so when norte amicanos (people of USA) settled there it was not a problem. However, when large groups of people emigrated the nobility decided the land was more valuable than at first blush. Santa Anna, president of Mexico decided that the North Americans had to go. With so much time and effort endured, the settlers had no intention of giving up their gains. In retrospect it is like opposite of what is going on today. With duels, battles, romance, fighting, the Alamo, honor duty, country this book is great cover to cover (since a kindle book, "so to speak" has no cover). This is a great read and you do not have to be into westerns or history to enjoy it...shu
First I must say this book is a very enjoyable read. The plot was interesting and extremely well written. If you are looking for a book of fiction, I would highly recommend it.

My problem is that the author played with the historical facts so much. Most historians estimate that around 600 Mexicians were either killed or wounded in the battle. Mr. Vaughan has 1,500 Mexicians dying in the battle. In Wikipedia, they have only 1,800 Mexicians participating in the battle. He has 6 dead Mexicans need Jim Bowie's bed. While this might be true, it is hard to believe that someone who was close to death and was bed ridden could kill 6 men. I would have preferred that Mr. Vaughan tried to keep to the major historical facts of the battle.

He leaves out any facts that may make the Texians look bad. For example, Mexico outlawed slavery, and this was a primary reason why the Texians revolted. I believe that telling both sides of the battle, with blemishes and all, would have made a more interesting read.

But if you are just reading this book for pleasure, and not as a history lesson, then it is a really good book.
This is an epic story of the events leading up to the Alamo and the eventual capture of Santa Anna. Robert Vaughan weaves an emotional tale filled with characters battling their own personal demons and the consequences of their missteps while moving them ever closer to the battle of the Alamo. The story is rich with historically accurate details from the clothing to the weapons, and even the concerns of the time.

While the main characters, Hunter Grant and his love, play important roles, the Heros in this story are many. Mr. Vaughan never lets us forget for a moment the priceless sacrifice of the men of the Alamo who stayed and fought against incredible odds and with the sure knowledge of eventual defeat and an honorable death. Despite what you assume, the ending is not sad, but is instead stirring.

I recommend this book.
